| We, Collegiate Congress, are an advocacy organization for students governed by Student Government Presidents of Colleges/Universities of New York City. We Collegiate Congress, petition the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York to provide fifty percent (50%) on the 30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard all the students of New York City.
The recent increase in MTA fares and rises in the cost of education have become an overwhelming burden to students and their families. An MTA discount will provide us, the students, with a cost effective way to commute for academic, work and social purposes. Additional benefits to the city of New York will include greater use of environmentally friendly public transportation, better accessibility to campus and its facilities, higher participation in city cultural events.
We, Collegiate Congress, understand that the MTA may be concerned with foregone revenue due to this policy. However, we believe that providing this discount will encourage more students to purchase MTA monthly unlimited tickets. To this end we are also conducting a survey to understand the student responsiveness to such a program. We hope this will enable both the MTA and students to work in a mutually beneficial and friendly manner.
We, the undersigned members of the Collegiate Congress, petition the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) of New York City to provide a fifty percent (50%) discount on the 30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard to all the college and university students of New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Staten Island).
